Transportation

Thanks to a grant from FSB, the To The Rescue HOPE Foundation is pleased to offer funding for transportation to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Iowa resident
  • Low income
  • Demonstrated need
  • No other funding sources available

Due to limited funding, transportation requests are intended for emergency, one time, short term use and/or stop gap use.  Requests for continuing transportation needs will not be approved at this time.

The To The Rescue HOPE Foundation reserves the right to approve or deny all funding requests.  Not all requests will be funded.  Grant eligibility will end when funding has been exhausted.

Overcoming Transportation Barriers

Living our happiest, healthiest lives, in part, is aided by independent mobility. A lack of reliable, private transportation is a barrier to equality.  Although accessible transportation is crucial for independent living, Medicaid only requires states to cover non-emergency medical transportation and does not require transportation related to other aspects necessary for community living such as accessing work, errands or recreational activities. Additionally, according to the National Institute of Health, a lack of transportation is one of the factors that contribute to negative mental health outcomes.
