Training Program for a Successful Career in Human Services

Unlike many occupations (ex. food service) Human Services is often a career not considered or known by many job candidates.  Additional training opportunities need to occur to attract a larger applicant pool; especially applicants that are unaware of or unsure of Human Services as a job/career choice.

What is Human Services?

Human Services is a broad field that stems from a single concept: helping people. Individuals driven by compassion and seeking the kind of satisfaction that can only come from helping others should consider a career in Human Services.  Human Services professions help people get the resources and care they need to live safe, comfortable and happy lives, especially the I/DD (Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities) population.

Human Services Targeted Training

Many individuals do not seek out Human Services as a job/career because they do not have the knowledge, skills or abilities needed to be successful in this field of work.  By offering pre-employment training, job candidates feel more comfortable considering and applying for a job/career in Human Services.

Engaging the untapped labor market (individuals at high schools, colleges and trade schools, individuals at senior centers, individuals that volunteer, the unemployed, retirees, the underemployed (individuals that have not reached their ideal job status) and individuals with career gaps) and offering pre-employment training will result in a much larger pool of qualified job candidates to recruit from.

Exit interview data suggests that many Human Services employees terminate their employment because they often do not feel they can properly support the I/DD population.

The To The Rescue HOPE Foundation is convinced that by offering training targeted to assisting individuals with I/DD recruitment, retention and promotion of Human Services employees will increase.  Well trained, tenured employees make all the difference in providing quality services.  Without this, our I/DD world suffers.
